Burlington Trailways

During this unprecedented time, Burlington Trailways has made the safety and well-being of our employees and customers a top priority. In order to achieve this, we have committed to additional disinfecting procedures above normal cleaning routines.

In addition to the verbal directives that have been instituted since the pandemic has started, Burlington Trailways has implemented the following changes effective April 29, 2020.


All buses will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at the end of each line run or charter. Cleaning consists of sweeping, picking up trash, emptying trash cans, restocking toilet paper if needed, and disinfecting. Disinfecting includes being sprayed with Lysol, Quad Stat 5 or other current disinfectants the company has determined appropriate. The focus areas are as follows:

  • Hand rail on the main entry door
  • Hand rail in the stairway entering the motor coach
  • Front dash of the motor coach
  • Over-head luggage lids and latches
  • Over-head luggage hand rails
  • Arm rest, seats, cup holders, and seat trays
  • Bathroom door handles and hand rails
  • Toilet seat, around the toilet, and toilet paper area
  • Steering wheel, parking brake, and gear pad
  • Dash board and control switches

Any cut bus will be detailed by our staff in West Burlington, IA for further cleaning and disinfecting.



All depots have been instructed and approved to build a barrier wall between the ticket counter and the public for added protection, if desired. Disinfecting solutions are available in each depot for their use. It is encouraged to clean as needed, and at the beginning and end of each shift. The focus areas are as follows:

  • Counters
  • Telephones
  • Keyboards
  • Door handles
  • Bathroom door handles and sink fixtures
  • Toilet seat, around the toilet, and toilet paper area
  • Any common area or surface


Corporate Offices

The corporate office has been provided with disinfecting solutions to clean offices and common areas with. Each morning, all door handles and telephone are disinfected. It is to the discretion of each employee to clean their individual office above the third cleaning company’s doing. The corporate office is cleaned by a third party on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Burlington Trailways Fees and Eligibility

Burlington Trailways is closely monitoring developments related to coronavirus (COVID-19) as part of our effort to safeguard our customers and each of our employees serving the traveling public. We are not limiting the capacity of our buses. Instead, we are encouraging passengers to determine what is best for them and their family.

Burlington Trailways will waive the re-issue fee for tickets with a listed date of travel occurring between May 27, 2020 and June 30, 2020 for customers citing COVID-19 concerns if the ticket is a Burlington Trailways ticket and the customer contacts Burlington Trailways directly regarding re-issuing of tickets before the date and time of travel that is listed on the ticket or at the time of travel.

To determine if a ticket is Burlington Trailways ticket, please refer to the Ticket # at the bottom of the ticket. If this number starts with 134, it is a Burlington Trailways ticket. If the ticket is not a Burlington Trailways ticket, please instruct the customer to contact the company where they bought the ticket (, Greyhound, Wanderu, etc.) regarding their current reissue policy. For tickets, customers should call Trailways Customer Care at 1-800-858-8555 for assistance.

The reissued travel date must occur between May 27, 2020 and December 31, 2020. The customer must choose a new date at the time of reissue.

The customer is responsible for paying any increase in ticket price. The only fee that Burlington Trailways will waiving is the $20 reissue fee. There will be no refund if the new ticket price is less than the original ticket price.

The above information only applies to COVID-19 refunds/reissues. The Burlington Trailways refund policy has not changed.

Customer Responsibilities

Starting June 1st, passengers are required to wear a face covering while onboard our buses and inside our depots. The only exceptions to this policy are customers who have a qualifying medical condition, those who have trouble breathing, and customers younger than 2 years old.

Please note that a face covering can be things such as bandanas, scarves, shirts, towels, etc.
